Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy May Day! This may be the most beautiful day of the year. I hope you are outside enjoying it. I plan to take apart this computer and put in a new hard drive - the thought petrifies me... If you don't end up receiving much email from me for a while you'll know the reason.
Sunday we'll be learning more about GAIA - the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance, and celebrating their tenth anniversary. We'll be honoring our own mothers by learning how we can support mothers in Africa.
Here's some news about CSA:
Christ Church collected 213 pounds of food for CSA
in April. CSA was glad to have this food since it included quite a
bit of pasta and some rice and they had none on their shelves. For our May
9 collection CSA would especially appreciate concentrating on these
two items so lets make this a rice and pasta collection month. Remember,
there is a van parked in the upper parking lot, open to receive your donations
just as you come down the sidewalk to the church. It will be parked there
at 8:30 to make it easier for those who attend the 8 and 9 o'clock services to
deposit their food donations.
Here’s a poem about exile from Su Man Shu (tr. Ken Rexroth) to remind us how blessed we are to be home today.
Exile in Japan
On the balcony of the tower
I play my flute and watch
The Spring rain.
I wonder
If I ever
Will go home and see
The tide bore
In Chekiang River again.
Straw sandals, an old
Begging bowl, nobody
Knows me. On how many
Bridges have I trampled
The fallen cherry blossoms.
Love,
Malcolm
