Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Bob Stutz's paper white flowers are filling the church campus with the most amazing fragrance this beautiful afternoon. What a labor of love! Bob probably put hundreds of hours into this project that is a blessing to all of us. It is such a great example of ministry. In my mind's eye I try to picture how you are doing God's work out there in the world. We're all so different and we all make vastly different kinds of contributions to God's creation.
The Lenten meditation books are in the office. They show the readings and include a short meditation. I think that they will help draw you closer to God this Lent. Ash Wednesday is less than a week away, so you should be thinking about what God is calling you to do during this season of repentance and renewal.
Here is a message from outreach committee: "Sunday, February 14 is our monthly Community Service CSA food drive. In December we collected 750 pounds of food. In January we collected 247 pounds of food. The lines at CSA are long, the needs are great. Let's aim for 400 pounds this month. This is one of our opportunities where everyone can participate. Don't miss it; don't forget it. We are making a tremendous difference to those in great need."
I'm trying to figure out what the theologian Paul Tillich means by "Christ." Here's what he says about God's word...
"The word from the Lord is the word which speaks out of the depth of our situation. It is, one could say, the deepest meaning of the situation, of every situation which comes to us in such words. It is also the depth of our own situation that speaks to us when we receive a word from the Lord."
I wonder what words from the Lord you are receiving today, in your life as God draws you into closer communion with all that is holy...
Love,
Malcolm
