[Parish] Communion Bread

Hi, Folks, many people have asked me how to make that delicious bread we
used for communion during July.  Here is Kay's recipe; she's happy to share
it with you.

 

  EUCHARIST BREAD RECIPE

 

(Makes two large loaves, or one large and two small loaves.)

 

2 PACKAGES YEAST

1 3/4 CUPS LUKEWARM WATER

1 TABLESPOON SALT

1/2 CUP SUGAR

1/4 CUP MELTED BUTTER

4 LARGE EGGS

7 CUPS FLOUR (APPROX)

 

DISSOLVE THE YEAST IN THE WATER.  ADD THE SALT, SUGAR AND BUTTER.  BLEND IN
3 CUPS FLOUR AND THE BEATEN EGGS. 

BEAT THOROUGHLY.  ADD 3 MORE CUPS FLOUR TO MAKE A STIFF DOUGH.

 

TURN DOUGH ON TO A FLOURED BOARD AND KNEAD UNTIL SMOOTH AND ELASTIC -AT
LEAST 10 MINUTES.

 

PUNCH THE DOUGH DOWN AND DIVIDE INTO 2 LARGE LOAVES, OR 1 LARGE AND 2 SMALL.
SHAPE INTO ROUNDS, AND PUT IN BUTTERED

PAN.  COVER AND LET RISE UNTIL DOUBLED IN SIZE.  BAKE IN A PREHEATED 350
DEGREE OVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MINUTES.  IT IS DONE WHEN KNOCKING ON
THE BOTTOM OF THE LOAF MAKES A HOLLOW SOUND
