[Parish] Traveling and Being Still

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope you are all well out there. Some of you may be reading this
letter in Northern Wisconsin, Maine, Canada or Europe. I hope that
as you travel you will visit other churches and bring back what you
learn. Although I loved worshiping with other faith communities I
was very glad to come back home.

For those of you who are in town, I wanted to remind you that we have
another summer barbecue scheduled for Wednesday August 19. It’s the
first day back to class for Los Altos School children who will enjoy
seeing their church friends that day too.

Also we want to try a bit of an experiment on Sunday at both the 8:00
a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services. We will have had five weeks worth of
gospel texts on how Jesus is the bread of life. We thought that we
could have a sermon dialogue as part of the service. We’ll have a
short homily and then invite people who are moved by the spirit to
talk about current issues regarding the Eucharist such as what it
means, how we should participate in the ritual, its relation to
morning prayer, communion for people who have not been baptized, even
what to do during an influenza epidemic. Pray about what communion
means to you and bring your inspiration this Sunday!

Here’s a little reminder from the psalms for today:

Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
Do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
Over those who carry out evil devices… (Ps. 37)

May God bless you in your stillness and your busyness, and give you
power to do his work.

Yours in Christ,

Malcolm
